Plants in the Ladera Heights Community: Red Fountain Grass (pennisetum.s.rubrum)
Description:
Red fountain grass grows in clumps and reaches a hight of about five
feet. The leaves will be a bergundy and tan. This plant is drought
tolerant and may self seed. If not maintained, the clumps will grow
very large, and may spread out to impede passage on walks, etc. Red
fountain grass has been found to be invasive in California, Florida,
and Hawaii, though it is still widely used in landcaping.
Control:
When dry, Red Fountain Grass turns brown and the bunches can present a
fire hazard. It has been found to burn hotter than other vegetation.
As such, if you do include it in your landscape it is important to
keep it from becoming overgrown or in dense stands.
